As we begin each project, we approach it as an operational space, so when we get to the Activation Phase, we’re not starting fresh. We see it all from the very beginning so you’re fully functional for the first patient.

Activation weaves its way throughout all Phases. When we begin with the end in mind, we’re thinking of patient care, workflows, throughput, processes, and daily goings-on throughout the entire process. Our patient-first mentality helps us consider the details from Day 1.

Kelly Martinez, Hallsta Co-founder, has an eye for detail and ample experience in both the clinical and construction worlds. “You think of different scenarios,” Kelly says, “how will patients enter, where are they going to sit, is the door large enough to fit a wheelchair or gurney? For the nurses – where will they take vital signs, are there enough seats for everyone, what happens in case of an emergency? You go through the entire scenario as if you were in their shoes. Almost role play in your head – do we have all the equipment and supplies we need?”

Activation asks – What does our client need to provide their services? What is the staffing matrix, the path of travel, the furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FFE) needed? We look at every element of the space so that on Day 1, our clients can begin utilizing the space without interruption.

We consider pens, paper clips, and coffee. It’s not just about the things a contractor remembers; we see everything. We take nurses, doctors, and receptionists into account – what everyone in every room needs to do their job. Our collaborative team of experts has decades of experience in these dual industries. We notice everything; we’ve done this countless times. Your hospital will be ready for action on Opening Day.
